EarthLink’s agency review is now down to three finalists. Still in contention for the $50-60 million account are Interpublic Group's Gotham and Lowe, and Omnicom Group's Merkley + Partners. Heading for the dumpster are WPP’s JWT, Publicis Group’s Saatchi & Saatchi and Omnicom's DDB, who all failed to advance. Agency briefings are slated for next week and final presentations will take place in early March. This means lots and lots of people who should know better will go out and spend the equivalent a small African nation’s GDP to pick up an account that will not even come close to spending what they said they would spend… That will within a year, start another agency review, long before the winning agency recoups a fraction of what they spent to win the account in the first place… And that will leave the two agencies who didn’t win the business in the position of trying to figure out how they can pass off the costs of this ridiculous exercise to their existing clients!!! ![]()
