This just in from the heart of the Empire. The BBC is about to launch a major advertising and marketing campaign to convince Brits that it’s really “Fab.” Now, as I am sure you all know, the BBC is a non-commercial venture and its fine programming is paid for by the yearly license fee every TV owner in Britain has to pay (which I personally, think is well worth it, as it obviates the need to watch ads for “The Purple Pill” in the middle of “Smackdown 2006!”) But it does raise one question… If you are a fan of the BBC and happy to pay the license fee, why do you need an expensive ad program telling you what you already know – that it's great? And, if you're not a fan, too bad, because it’s against the law to own a TV and not pay the fee! So, if you don’t have any say in the matter, what’s the point of the campaign… Unless they’re going to run the BBC ads on the non-BBC stations in the hope that those viewers will then switch to the BBC! But then, couldn’t the commercial channels refuse to run the BBC ads… I’m confused!![]()
If you don't like the arangement, don't own a TV!
