When it comes to football (the game played with your feet in the rest of the world) David Beckham has helped Real Madrid topple Manchester United as the world's richest club and biggest brand, according to the latest Deloitte Football Money League. Manchester (my home town) United had topped the chart since its creation nine years ago but latest figures, relating to the 2004-2005 season, put Real Madrid, which is now worth £186.2m, top and the English club, now worth £166.4m, second. Apparently, Beckham's switch to Real Madrid from Man United in 2003 has been a key factor, as well as a concerted effort by the Spanish club to boost its commercial revenues. The England captain's arrival at the Spanish club boosted its merchandising power and the world standing of its brand. After all, Beckham is the most famous player in the world. While “Posh” is probably the most famous failed singer in the world!![]()
Cor blimey, we ain't arf cool!

Isn't golden balls also trying to make a splash in America too? Thing is, MLS is a joke compared to the rest of the world, from a competitive AND fan POV. They’re lucky if they average 25% attendance at games.
