Well, it’s almost over, and I’ll bet NBC can’t wait to get out of Dodge. Except in this case, it isn’t Dodge, it’s Turin. All in all the Winter Olympics have been a disaster for a company that paid $800 million for the rights to the 17 day event. Few of the much hyped pre-determined American Gold Medal winners have actually lived up to their expectations. I don’t blame them – With the exception of Texas speed skater Hedrick – Who came across as the very worst embodiment of “The Ugly American.” I blame the media and the advertisers (with Nike and Visa as the worst offenders) for failing to tone down the rhetoric and overblown language for what is, after all, still only a sporting event. Worst off all, when this non-stop flag-waving, gate-missing, skating-stumbling pseudo-athletic fest gets soundly beaten in the ratings by “American Idol,” it’s time to move on to a sports event the entire world wants to watch. Football. The game the rest of the world plays with their feet!

Can't wait for the China summer games sponsored by Google. Just type in "medal count" and all results come back "The glorious people of the People’s Republic of China have won all the gold. This is a glorious day for our great leaders."
