Sir Richard Branson, main sponsor of Steve Fossett's just completed non-stop flight distance record, would rather the world didn’t know the full story behind the problems at the very beginning of the flight. Most newspapers mentioned that Fossett had to use more fuel than planned at take off because he needed more of the runway than had been planned. What they didn’t explain was the reason for this. Apparently as soon as Fossett had got off the ground he ran into a flock of birds at the Kennedy Space Centre and several of them hit the aircraft, resulting in a pile of dead birds littering the tarmac. When questioned, Sir Richard denied that most of them were Virgins!![]()
So, we need this really, really small pilot!
