The “Poisoned Dwarf,” (Sir Martin Sorrell – Chairman WPP) may be forced to move back into the basement (his ex-wife made him live there during divorce proceedings recently) if Marco Benatti, the WPP Group country manager in Italy who was fired Jan. 9, wins the lawsuit he has just filed an Italian court against WPP Italy and its U.K.-based parent. Benatti alleges unfair dismissal and damage to his professional reputation resulting from media reports about the termination of his employment. Claiming that “His Gnomeship” has created immense personal damage by his repeated defamatory statements, Benatti is rumored to be suing for several million. It would seem that part of Benatti's job at WPP was to introduce the company to acquisition candidates, which he did with Media Club, earning a commission of $247,000. Benatti demanded an earnout of $11 million! After a bit of detective work it turned out Media Club was majority-owned by Benatti. Oooo… Naughty! It seems like there’s also a little matter of dodgy media rebates and client bribes to be considered as well. But heck, as I’ve said before, if you can buy the Prime Ministership of Italy, what’s all the fuss about a few kick-backs? ![]()
The last thing I want is for Benatti to make me "Sleep with the fishes!"
