A recent study in England came up with what I considered to be the rather surprising finding that magazines come out ahead of other media, including TV, when it comes to reaching children. Then I read that it was commissioned by the publishing industry and that the study was based on information gathered from discussions with children and parents at home and in focus groups. "Magazines are viewed by parents as a positive alternative to TV," the PPA said. "Magazines are perceived to be the 'good parent' medium, valued above other types of media." Well yes! I wouldn’t expect the Magazine people to say otherwise, would you? And can you imagine doing focus groups with a bunch of four year olds? What a waste of everyone’s time!![]()
Mom, could we have some magazines please... Yeah, right!
