Anyone as impossibly long in the tooth as me will never be able to forget the “Doublemint Twins” TV ads from Wrigley. Well guess what? They’re back! According to today’s BrandWeek, they’ve introduced the first new product in a century, along with an ad campaign satirizing its own brand. Now, the Doublemint Twins mints feature two flavors in one. Offered both Wintercreme and Mintcreme flavors, Doublemint Twins mints packaging comes with the blue and green Doublemint arrows and a convenient, flip-top pack. All I can say is … Wow… Double Wow! “Consumers told us that they were looking for an innovative and exciting way to enjoy the Doublemint brand that they grew up with," stated Paul Chibe, senior marketing dufus for Wrigley. To which I reply… Paul, I think you just made that whole thing up, ‘cos people don’t talk like that, just marketing wankers like you do! The new campaign from BBDO, builds upon the brand's heritage of the Doublemint Twins and their “unique” jingle—but with a twist. Viewers will be introduced to a new set of twins—two very different people dressed alike as twins—singing, "New Doublemint Twins are different. They're mints." All I can say, again, is Wow! This is obviously what breakthrough advertising is all about. ![]()
