Today’s AdWeek had a piece about El Puerto de Liverpool, owner of high-end department stores in Mexico, hiring three agencies to handle the promotions, public relations and Web site chores for the rollout of its new mail-order service targeting Mexican Americans. The service lets Mexicans living in the U.S. buy items from the company's department stores for delivery to family members in Mexico. The campaign will include radio, television and transit ads by agency La Gente de RLR in the LA area. OK, all well and good, but my question is… Where the heck do they get the name from? I mean my wife is from Liverpool, and yes it is a port, but why does a Mexican store chain call itself “The Port of Liverpool?” Maybe the management are a bunch of “Beatle” fans! If anyone knows, please tell me.![]()
Doesn't look like Mexico to me!

When it was founded in 1847 the store name was "EL Puerto de Liverpool" because all of the items they sell where imported from europe trough that port, the Liverpool port.
