Anheuser-Busch’s continues its “Here’s to Beer” campaign continues with spots featuring Spike Lee and “Sopranos” ace gangster Michael Imperioli. The spots ask viewers whom they would have a beer with if given the chance. Mr. Lee chose pioneering baseball great Jackie Robinson, while Mr. Imperioli picked Humphrey Bogart. Why not Al Capone? Anheuser-Busch Exec VP Robert Lachky said the spots are designed to counter recent market-share gains by wine and spirits. “Look, we’ve still got 60% [of alcoholic-beverage consumption], but consumers had turned their heads to other forms of alcoholic beverages a little bit, and we, as brewers, had stopped talking about beer.” OK, a word of advice for Mr. Lachky from someone with years of experience in this field. Stop talking about beer and start making beer that tastes like beer. That’s why there are so many micro-brews on the market now. If I want to drink something that tastes like water, I’ll drink water and pass on the Bud Light’s and Coors Silver Bullets. To paraphrase a great t-shirt “Life’s too short to drink Light Beer!”![]()
This never happens after a Bud Light!
