As a frequent flyer, who would rather go by Greyhound Bus than travel in Economy Class - Not being snobbish here, but if a client won’t pay to fly me business class, then I don’t fly, I’m too bloody old! – I was intrigued to read today’s story in both the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune about Airbus’s proposal to install “Standing Room Only Seats” in the back of the plane. Apparently, passengers in the standing section would be propped against a padded backboard and held in place with a harness! I know things are tight in the airline industry, but this is going too far. Then I read in today’s Guardian that when they contacted Airbus, they pointed out that the NYT article was a "fantastic story but not true". So it would seem someone has pulled off a hell of a scam there. Wonder who… Maybe Greyhound Bus?
“Loved this though in the comments section… What's wrong with strapping them to the outside of the airplane? A few could hang on to the doors, and some could hang from the wings. Maybe India Airways would be interested in this. I know that they're quite happy to hang on to the outsides of trains and buses all the time, so why not a plane?”![]()
Standing room only... On the roof. But it's air conditioned!

Eurgh. Economy class is bad enough on long flights. I recently did a 13 hour flight like that, and I wanted to a: hit my legs with a hammer to stretch them and b: punch the stupid idiot in front of me who thought he was on a beach lounger at my expense!
