Loved the bit in BrandWeek today about Ford Motor Co. leaping into the snake pit of reality TV. Apparently some genius in Dearborn has produced a “treatment” for a reality TV show. “We showed a group of dealers an idea of what we had for original programming,“ said Jennifer Flake, a Ford rep. The spot was produced by Ford's agency, JWT, Detroit. The two-minute episode was shown Wednesday when Ford executives met with its top-50 dealers and the heads of 64 dealer-advertising groups. “The dealers loved it, they were applauding like mad,” said another Ford representative. “And the full intention is to show this to someone, a network, for production. It could be a car-designing show, which would be a natural.” All I can say is, having worked with car dealer groups… These are the closest you can get to Neanderthals without jumping into a time capsule. If they applauded, you know it has to be really, really bad! But hey… Ford builds really, really bad cars! Go figure.![]()
So, I have this Ford dealership in Boise, and I loved this idea of a reality show. But I live in a time warp where I actually believe that if you fly lots of balloons and give away free hot dags... People will actually buy really crappy cars!!!
