This weekend Pfizer is launching a new campaign for Lipitor, the first since they switched agencies in January from Merkley + Partners to The Kaplan Thaler Group. The opening TV spot shows Dr. Robert Jarvik, inventor of the artificial heart, rowing on a picturesque lake while he gives a semi-ethical spiel about heart beats, cholesterol, clogged arteries and heart disease. Then the ethics go out the window and the sales pitch for Lipitor begins. Compared to a couple of years ago the big pharmaceutical companies have only been spending a few hundred million advertising their outrageously priced products! Expect that to change soon as several categories are starting to get very crowded, and with patents running out, these huge money making brands are coming under threat. That means you can look forward to lots of fake doctors in fake hospitals reading very badly written lines. But, I suppose that’s better than the singing cowboy of a few years ago who used to sit by the camp fire with his trusty guitar as he warbled on about the benefits of Dulcolax with built-in stool softener. Funny how they always ran the spot at at dinner time!![]()
This will only hurt when I reach into your wallet!
