Loved all that stuff coming out of Scottsdale yesterday when Euro – Rsc – Ge- XXZZ - whatsit – thingy- The world’s longest agency name – Whatever - Ron Berger concluded his term as chairman of the AAAAs with a bang, firing shots at Martin Sorrell and Jack Klues, the television networks, the head of the ANA, and the trade press. Hey Ron, you forgot Sponge Pants Bob! He accused Sorrell (Known by fans of mine as “The Poisoned Dwarf”) of being overly consumed by the bottom line; Klues of resisting change; the networks of being "arrogant"; the ANA's Bob Liodice of anti-agency rhetoric; and the trade press of lacking "a deeper understanding" of the industry. OK, Ron… Apart from that, everything else is hunky dory, right? Sorrell, the CEO of WPP, was his first target. "I think our industry would be better if we had more holding company CEOs like John Wren and fewer Martin Sorrell’s," said Berger, CEO and chief creative officer of Euro's New York and San Francisco offices. Sorrell is concerned with pleasing Wall Street at the expense of Madison Avenue, he said. Listen Ron… WPP is a publicly traded company, and as we all know, it’s about making the next quarter’s numbers so that Wall Street doesn’t kick the crap out of you… Speaking of which… I find it kind of strange that you are listed as a WPP shareholder, even though you work for an agency which is part of the Havas network. Apart from that being a conflict of interest, why would you own shares in a company you think is so bad for the ad biz???
Listen... "Sir Martin"... If that WPP stock doesn't go up at least 20%, you get yours!
