I haven’t yet seen the new TV campaign urging Americans to buy American cars, but based on the track record of other campaigns to convince Americans to buy American stuff, it will very likely be a flop. The $1 million print and broadcast buy will look to sway car buyers in Detroit, Washington and other major cities. OK, well compared to what foreign automakers spend, $1 Million isn’t going to do much, on top of which, most Americans will buy what they believe is the best value… Remember when Wal-Mart using to make a big deal about how all their stuff was “Made in America.” Now it’s all made in China and it hasn’t stopped Americans from shopping there. The ads are being created by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, which handled Ford Motor's ad push in January. That extremely lame campaign featured CEO Ford the 35th, or whatever, speaking of Ford's commitment to "retake the American roadway." The "Rebirth" ads began just after Ford announced 14 plant closings and 30,000 layoffs. I suppose it all depends on your definition of the word “Rebirth!” ![]()
Those lapel pins politicians love to wear... Are all made in China!!!

Ah, the ironies of the global marketplace. Thanks for this post, George!
