Interesting that Dell has ditched Microsoft in favor of Google as the pre-installed search engine on all its machines. Eric Schmidt (Google CEO) told an investor conference yesterday that Dell PCs are to be Googled, with the search giant's desktop, toolbar, search engine, and home page all pre-installed. Previously, Dell customers would boot up their new machines to see nothing but Microsoft logos. This is the second time in a fortnight that Dell has pulled the plug on a long-time partner when it announced last week that it would for the first time start using AMD chips. Even more surprising for the company which pioneered the direct model to market announced this week that it would open its own retail outlets in the US. (You can only look and try out stuff there, you still have to order over the Internet) Wonder if all this is because of slowing revenue growth and sliding profits… Nahh, duyathink?![]()
Microsoft and Intel aren't the only things Dell ditched!
