BrandWeek has a piece on so called “HEALTHY BEER.” Apparently, by taking the best of the all-natural food movement in this country, combining it with one of the most popular adult beverages, you get organic beer. Or, so seems to be the thinking behind Peak Organic beer, according to its company president and CEO, Jon Cadoux: "Using barley and hops that are grown without toxic and persistent pesticides and chemical fertilizers makes our beer tastier and more enjoyable,” he says. But, that’s my point… “He says!” It’s not up to him, it’s up to the people who drink his suds. Peak invites fans to post on its Web site (PeakBrewing.com) stories about “peak” experiences they enjoyed. Visitors then vote on their favorite stories, and the winner ends up pictured on bottle and container labels. Well, I went to the Web site… Not much there that would convince me to pay an obvious premium price for so called “Organic beer.” But don’t get me wrong here, I love good beer and wine, but all this organic hoo-hah is a load of old tripe. The châteaux and breweries of Europe have been doused in chemicals for centuries, but the product still tastes a damn sight better than the various “Lite Beers,” or “Non-Alcoholic” wines you are expected to pay a premium for over here!
After twelve pints, what does taste have to do with it?
