Why does today’s news that Amanda Walsh, president of WPP Group's United agency network (formerly Red Cell), is stepping down from the position, not surprise me? Well, when you downsize from a 55-office group to a nine-office network run by worldwide “UberEgo” CEO Andy Berlin, as sources politely put it, Walsh's position became redundant because, as one executive put it, "You don't need two CEOs running nine offices." Especially as the one wearing the trousers needs to control and run everything. Even though most of the things he’s run have been into the ground! The relaunch of Red Cell last year was meant to position the "micro-network" as a global boutique that could compete against Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Fallon and Wieden + Kennedy, sources said. So far, it’s been no competition. Red Cell aint going anywhere!
When I do this, it means I'm turning left... No, I mean right. No, straight on, I think!
