Many years ago, when I first got in the business, I used to work on the Old Spice account. In common with all the other after shaves and colognes, the not so subtle message was “Splash this on and get women falling all over you!” As further proof of advertisings relentless pursuit of awfulness, not to mention its complete lack of originality, this late news… “Australia's "Lynx Jet" campaign for Unilever's Lynx male body spray has become an overnight sensation at the Cannes Lions festival, winning the Grand Prix in the Media Lions contest a day after picking up two Gold Lions in the Lions Direct awards and one Promo Lion in the sales-promotion competition. Aimed at young males, 'Lynx Jet' work featured a fake airline called Lynx Jet with sexy airline hostesses dubbed 'Mostesses.' The planes come equipped with “Mile High Cabins!” One of the jurors, Eddie D'Sa, managing partner of Naked Communications in Oslo, Norway, pointed out an insight the campaign plays on: "If you wear Lynx, you'll get laid more." Yes, Eddie, that is extremely insightful!![]()
At least "Putney Swope" did it with humor!
