I know it’s about beer again, but here’s another example of how Budweiser may be shooting itself in the foot. As many as a thousand Netherlands World Cup fans had to take off their pants before entering the stadium in Stuttgart, Germany because the orange team pants carried a logo for a Dutch Brewery. Since Budweiser owns exclusive beer advertising and promotional rights at the World Cup, stadium officials made the Dutch fans shed their logos – and pants - before they could enter. According to FIFA officials, the trousers were an attempt at ambush marketing - and they had to act to protect the interests of sponsors. All I can say is this is just the latest in what is turning out to be a PR nightmare for Budweiser, which paid $40 million for the World Cup beer monopoly. Serves ‘em right for making lousy beer!![]()
Are you absolutely, positively sure you want my pants?
