In common with MySpace, the things that have helped YouTube's explosive growth and popularity will also undermine its ability to generate profit. Why? Because the kids that love MySpace and YouTube have grown accustomed to not only not paying for the service but also not having advertising clutter the screen with junk. MySpace has already started shilling for other “Wizened of Oz” owned media vehicles, and YouTube plans to introduce online advertising in the coming months. What these guys never think through is what it is that made these sites popular in the first place… No ads and free service. Plus, there are a growing number of similar sites out there that will remain free and carry no advertising. Murdoch’s millions may not have been spent wisely after all. We’ll see!![]()

Great thoughts, George. Kind of makes it tough to do business with "free" sites that don't even allow advertising on their sites, doesn't it? One has to wonder about the business model of such sites, but in the mean time it makes it tough for businesses looking to produce sales leads through these popular online sites.
Sorry about England and the World Cup, by the way...there's always 2010.
