Why am I not surprised to read that Intel is talking to agencies other than McCann for "brand positioning" ideas supposedly for its new Core 2 Duo processor. Pitches are being made to Eric Kim, Intel's chief marketing officer, in the next several weeks. Intel spends $300 million with McCann, and the account has only been there a little over a year. With the news that Kim is in touch with agencies outside of Interpublic there’s no question McCann is in trouble, and if you look at the work you’ll realize why. The current crap they are running featuring celebrities sitting on the laps of lap-top (laps, lap-tops, get it?) computer users, launched in eight countries in September 2005 and using Tony Leung, John Cleese, Lucy Liu, Tony Hawk, and Mariah Carey, is pathetic. The word is that Kim is "unhappy and impatient" with McCann. Which is code for “About to fire!” ![]()
Yeah... But not with McCann for much longer!
