In what smacks to me as a sign of desperation, Current TV, the Al Gore founded network is planning to launch a series of broadband channels, each focusing on a niche topic appealing to its 18-to-34 target. - Why is the communication industry fixated on this demographic – Yeah, I know they have all that money they’ve earned working at Wendy’s, but, hey, there’s a lot more old geezers around like me with money to burn before we leave it to our undeserving offspring! – The new channels, which will be programmed by what Current calls "viewer-created content (VC2)," will focus on cars, travel, action sports, health and games. Guys, guys, you’re too late, YouTube and MySpace owns that territory. Even the Koreans have jumped in the pool with CyWorld (see my earlier post) But, as I said, 90% of people in communications and advertising always jump on “The latest thing” when it’s already become “The old thing!”![]()
