In a just published report by the U.K. Office of Communications, online advertising has just become the fourth-largest, and fastest growing ad market in the U.K. as media consumption shifts, especially among those aged 16-24. Online ad revenue totaled 1.3 billion Pounds last year, and online is now worth three times the radio ad market. Online is now fourth in the U.K. behind newspapers, TV and direct mail, having overtaken outdoor in 2005 - and also the business magazine and consumer magazine markets. One explanation for the growing trend is the growth of broadband connections (A much higher rate than here in the US) particularly amongst the 16-24 demographic; over 70% of internet users in that age group engage in social networking and blogging - half of them at least weekly. Strange that after the frenzy amongst all the telecom to lay miles and miles of fiber during the late nineties, (and pick up billions in tax breaks while doing it) we still lag behind so many other countries in broadband usage.![]()
I even have a broadband lawnmower.
