No surprise in the news from England that the famous British brand Land Rover could be put up for sale by Ford along with Jaguar as part of a major restructuring of the car giant. According to a report in the British press, Ford is exploring strategic options, which could see it sell a majority stake in the two car marques, while retaining a minority stake in both brands. Land Rover would be a brand worth acquiring with strong sales and profitability. But Jaguar has been struggling for years and hasn’t made profits for Ford for a long time. The pathetic advertising a succession of agencies have produced over the last ten years or so has done nothing to improve things. Ford held talks with Renault, Hyundai and Peugeot about buying Jaguar earlier this year, but these came to nothing. Perhaps they see Land Rover as a sweetener for anyone dumb enough to consider buying Jaguar. Whoever does end up with it needs to immediately hire a new agency.![]()
Ah... When they made real cars!
