Tim Nudd over at AdFreak has a point when he says that the hew promo for the US version of “The Office” is somewhat on the sappy side of wet. As he said, he hoped it was a parody. But no—they actually are turning this comedy about delusional, stupid, selfish idiots into a melodrama about unrequited love. He thinks NBC’s has done its research; and that no doubt this is what viewers want. Based on what has happened in the past when every US version of a British comedy has been completely watered down. Either from the beginning like "Porridge" and "Couples" 'Cos they cut out all the swearing and sexy bits (in other words the good stuff.) Or when they've been running a bit, they have to make them soppy with happy endings. Don't the networks know life has lots of bad shit in it. Wow, cynicism!!! Remember when Rosanne was going to do an American version of "Ab - Fab?" No chance. Take out the sex, booze, dope, over indulgence, and what are you left with... The average US sitcom. And who wants to watch that?![]()
So how come everyone in America has loved this for years? Maybe because it was never focus grouped and it never ran on Network TV!!!
