Interesting story on AdAge about a promotion Fosters Lager is running based for Foster's Victoria Bitter brand that gave away a talking figurine of cricket legend David Boon with every two cases sold. Foster's used point-of-sale materials to promote the figurine, and kicked off the promotion with a series of TV and radio spots that established the legend of "Boon." Apparently the toy David Boon sits on top of your beer can while you watch the cricket on TV. The can-topping talker commented on the action "Show us a replay of that!", "When are we going to the pub?" and other very Aussie sayings triggered by encoded signals embedded in the broadcast. All very clever and very “Land of Oz!” Which leads to the big question. Why is ad age talking about a cricket sponsorship, when most Americans think cricket is something that goes by the first name “Jimminie?” I did like the bit though about how part of David Boones mystique comes from the story that he once downed 52 beers while flying between London and Sydney. That’s what I call legendary! ![]()
Mine's a pint sir. No, make that 52 pints!
