The social networking juggernaut rolls on with the news today that Microsoft has signed a deal with Facebook, the second largest social networking site in the US after MySpace, to provide online advertising services. Under the three-year deal, Microsoft will be the exclusive seller and provider of banner advertising and sponsored links for the site, which is popular among college students. Readers of AdHurl will remember my posts earlier this month about Google striking a similar deal with “The Wizened of Oz’s” News Corporation's MySpace, paying at least $900m (£476m) in shared advertising revenue to become the exclusive search provider. Obviously a lot of people think they are going to make a lot of money on these rapidly expanding sites. As I’ve said before this whole furor is starting to smell a bit like the dot.com delirium of the late nineties… Having been burned in the past when doing work for stock futures that ended up worthless… I think I’ll sit this one out for a bit![]()
It can get ugly when it bursts!
