Anyone paying attention to the news will know that Hugo Chavez delivered a speech at the UN the other day. OK, everyone got worked up about him referring to Bush as the devil, and how the podium still smelled of sulfur. Personally I think bullshit would have been more apt. Anyway, what I found particularly interesting was that he began his speech by displaying a copy of American writer Noam Chomsky's 2004 book Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance, and recommended that all the UN delegates and every US citizen should read it. A suggestion I wholeheartedly agree with… But, the really interesting thing is that as of today, the book had risen from backlist obscurity to the No. 1 bestseller at Amazon.com. That’s right Number One, which has to mean tens of thousands of sales. Maybe Bush should have started his speech by recommending one of the three “Shakespeare’s” he claims to have read this year. ![]()
Noam Chomsky... Does that sound like a genuine American name to you?
