When I lived in New York, yeah, I would buy coffee at Starbucks, but just regular Columbian or whatever was the brew of the day. It cost me three or four dollars. But what always amazed me was the price people were prepared to pay for their frappaccino/latte/mocha/cappuccino/orgasmo designer drinks. I mean I’m talking serious money here. So today’s news that Starbucks Corp. was planning to raise the price of its lattes, cappuccinos, drip coffee and other drinks by 5 cents, or an average of 1.9 percent, didn’t exactly shock me. I mean here is a company that has taken over the world by riding on some kind of mystic for a product that’s been around for ever. The funniest thing was when I read a few years ago that they had just opened their first outlet in Vienna. ‘Cos anyone who’s ever been there knows that the place is famous for its coffee and coffee houses. Still, I suppose Mozart’s favorite coffee house may have had great coffee, but it didn’t have Wi-Fi. They call it progress, or is it globalization?![]()
Make that a triple shot... I have a requiem to write before morning!
