Interesting to read the comments of Charles Gibson of ABC's "World News" that all the pharmaceutical advertising--analgesics, dentures, direct-to-consumer drugs—that runs during his newscast is turning away younger viewers. So he wants the network to start running younger-skewing ads. The problem is, getting young advertisers would take some doing. ABC would have to drop the price of its prime-time news spots to a quarter of their current fee. But even that won’t necessarily work then it won't work when you consider that the median age for all three broadcast news shows is the same--60 years old. And old geezers like that aren’t usually interested in iPods, mountain bikes, pop music and back-to-school fashions. On the other hand, maybe they should consider doing more of what the title of the program implies… Namely, “World News!” It would make a change from all the medical junk they seem to be obsessed with every night.![]()
Fell of my mountain bike... Had to get new dentures!
