Lies, damn lies, and media studies!

So I posted a few days ago about how the demographics for Social Networking sites were shifting to a much more mature audience. Now there’s a study just out showing that site traffic dropped in September as teens and college students returned to classes. Visitors to social network heavyweight MySpace dropped to 47.2 million in September from 49.2 million in August, a 4 percent decline, per nielsen NetRatings. The decrease was more striking at YouTube, which Google just agreed to buy for $ 1.65 billion. Compared to August, traffic in September fell 19 percent to 27.6 million. So here’s my question, if the audience is getting older, why is the volume of audience dropping off when the kids are going back to school? I guess that’s why you have to take most “studies” with a grain of salt. spamPod.jpg

Have you noticed how much spam there is around on these sites recently?
