The begining of the end for Madison Avenue?

What with all the fuss about Consumer Generated Content (CGC) It’s interesting to read that the NFL is getting into the act when it will run a commercial during Super Bowl XLI that has been conceived by a fan. The concept, "Pitch us your idea for the best NFL Super Bowl commercial ever. Seriously," was unveiled today by the league. Details of the contest will be announced Oct. 31 online at www.NFL.com/superad The NFL said it would be looking for a "Super Bowl commercial that has to be football related, with no other brands featured." The winning entry will become a 30-second spot directed by Joe Pytka and air during Super Bowl XLI on CBS, Feb. 4, 2007. As Pytka never shoots anything for less than the GDP of a small African nation, it’ll be interesting to see what the finished spot looks like… Hey, who needs an agency when you can get the viewer to do it all for you?Joe Pytka.jpg

No, I'm not going to DisneyLand, I'm going for        a haircut!

We open with a wide shot on a team of Clydesdales...

(Stop me if you heard this one.)

What's the difference? Isn't that how Pytka works anyway? "OK, so you sent over these boards. They suck. And that copy! My wife and I just did a workshop where we came up with a dozen better ways to say Hike. Gotta go live with a truffle shot. Watch this, yo, where's that guy from Murphy Brown? Yeah, him. He still waxing the car? A-----e. Hey! Did you touch my bike? You can't even afford the bell on that bike. Get the f--- off my set!"

Obviously, you too have had the misfortune of working with Pytka. The strange part of it is that people keep going back to be insulted (not to mention, paying through the nose) Still, as we all know, the ad biz is full of masochists.
Cheers/George

Misfortune? There's no better way to prove your prowess than to have a ready-story about Joe Pytka yelling at your idiot account guy while you're making Wrap Party reservations at Tour d'Argent... AHA! Gotcha! - Joe doesn't need reservations...

great idea! I can't wait to see some of the ideas that people come up with.

Oh Edward
Those evenings at Tour d'Argent, when Joe would get pissed after too much of "The Widow" and his $250,000 truffle would start acting up. Then his unwashed golden locks would fall in the mousseline degoutant. God what wonderful times we had... And IBM was picking up the bill... Priceless.
Cheers/George

Somehow I didn't get those party invites, not that anyone noticed... maybe I'll land this NFL gig and get a second chance to dine near the Great One. It bites that in order to enter you have to travel to one of 3 specially marked games.

BTW, did you realize that Lisa Baird (formerly of IBM) is the CMO at the NFL? Wanna bet she ordered Duck?

What's the Duck reference about?

From Wikipidia: Tourists, particularly, seem to be enamoured with the restaurant’s formal service, excellent food, and extensive wine list.

The pressed duck recipe, revived in 1890 by the then owner Frederic Delair after he found it in an old cookbook. He then decided to number each canard a la presse and present the tag to the diner.

On June 21, 1921 Emperor Hiro Hito ate duck 53211, and fifty years later on October 3 duck number 423,900. In November 2002, Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, consumed duck number 971,612.

Amazing...
As we used to say in England...
Cor luva Duck...
I have no idea what it means, but it does tend to make an impression on visting American tourists.
Cheers/George

Ah Pytka... A raving, rich balding 50 something white male whose greatest claim to fame is decades of having his ass kissed by other white people that nobody can pick out of a lineup at gunpoint, all for doing work that while interesting for random brief moments in time ultimately makes the average person go, "Oh, yeah I remember that. Sorta." Click.

God Bless the winner of this contest.

As for the efficacy of the concept, why would i enter a contest to come up with an idea for approval that might reach a few million people on TV, when I already have the potential to reach tens of millions of people online with the same idea, less headaches and quicker results?

"Hey give us your commercial ideas and we might let you use them!"

huh?
