Hey IBM, I hear Tibet is really, really cheap!

Do you think many people, particularly those in government have woken up to the fact that IBM is no longer considering itself a U.S. company operating internationally, but rather an international company that happens to operate in the U.S? So far this month we’ve seen a flurry of off-shore announcements and it wouldn’t be far fetched to speculate that in several years the company's combined presence across and will be far greater than its American operations. Last week, IBM disclosed plans to set up a new software development lab in Pune, and to invest a total $6 billion on the sub-continent over the next two years. The move is part of IBM's grand plan for the future, while IBM's strategy appears to be one of overwhelming force. And on Tuesday, IBM, CEO, Palmisano unveiled the company's plans for the coming year while in Beijing, leaving little doubt about 's centrality to IBM strategic plans. All of this might not be great news for IBM's employees, but I’m sure it’s something Chairman, “Poisoned Dwarf,” Sorrell over at WPP might be getting anxious about. Although the fact that he’s been building up his range of options and agencies throughout the Far East signifies he’s aware of the situation and is putting himself out to be ready for whatever happens. Strange to think that IBM might soon be considered as no longer an American company.IBM India.jpg

To not understand global economy is to be out dated.

Who said IBM understands global economy? Thus far I don't see any proof.

Sri, George just likes to find new ways to tickle Sir Martin. He really does understand the global economy, which is why he lives in Boise.

George, it has to have been 25 years ago that Ken Ohmae's started this rumor about "global" companies - when I saw the blog title, I thought you were going to make a funny about Palmisano's investment in Second Life. Did you see that Avatar in Business Week? Interesting - WPP hasn't yet claimed any land rights there (but I did hear a rumor that Miles Young has been flying around the SL islands trolling for new blood). Who knows where that could lead...
