Today’s New York Times has a full article on the Drug Industries state of panic regarding the Democratic take over of both houses. On the Democrats action list are… Stricter regulation of drug safety and for legislation to encourage development of low-cost generic versions of expensive biotechnology drugs. They are also determined to allow imports of drugs from Canada, where brand-name products are often cheaper. They want to investigate drug pricing and profits, drug advertising aimed at consumers and the marketing of drugs to doctors for purposes not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Democrats may also try to repeal some of the liability protections that have been given to vaccine manufacturers. The two parts I have italicized are the ones that could affect the ad industry big time. Cut out drug advertising and promotion to consumers and doctors and you’re talking about billions of dollars many agencies could kiss goodbye. It’s enough to make you want one of those purple pills!
