Rory over at BrandWeek has a post about a new TV network, Retirement Living TV, aimed at, yes, retired people. Right now, it’s only on from noon ‘til 4 p.m. over CN8, a Comcast Channel. But now they’re going to expand dramatically with the announcement this week that DirecTV will start carrying the programming from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. As he so correctly points out, with aging baby boomers a growing financial force to be reckoned with in this country, the channel might well be ahead of the curve in terms of potential audience. Which is why I always laugh when I read about advertisers going after that prime demographic 18 to 24 year olds. These acne encrusted hamburger flippers exist on minimum wages and spend it all on crap. It’s old geezers like me that have tons of loot ready to blow on fine wines, fast cars and loose women. And because I am committed to not taking it with me, I intend to have just enough left when it’s check out time to pay for the trash bag they will bury me in.![]()
