Makes you wonder what’s going on when you read that Time Magazine has just selected YouTube as its “Invention of the Year.” Coming in second was a vaccine that protects against cervical cancer. Yes, something that can save tens of thousands of lives was considered less of a breakthrough than the ability to watch really bad videos of a fat kid miming to an East European pop song in his grungy bedroom! But never forget, these are the same people who named Jeff Bezos their “Man of the year,” after he had managed to run up massive debts for Amazon while consistently losing millions for years. And while we’re at it, I should point out that even though YouTube was named the “Invention of the Year” for 2006, it was actually launched in 2005. Mmmm, you’d think a publication that goes by the name “Time” would get that right.![]()
