It would seem that so many people bought, or received as gifts, iPods and iTunes gift cards over the holidays that the Apple Computer's iTunes music store was overwhelmed for a couple of days, prompting error messages and slowdowns of 20 minutes or more for downloads of a single song. Frazzled users began posting urgent help messages Monday and Tuesday on Apple's technical forum for iTunes, complaining they either were not allowed into the store or were told the system couldn't process their request to download songs and videos. Financial analysts put a positive spin on it saying the interruption could be viewed as a sign that sales dramatically exceeded Apple's own forecasts. Apparently things were sorted out by late on Wednesday. But, here’s a thought. When, and if, Apple finally comes out with its iPhone and everyone gets one for next Christmas, what happens if the tree catches fire, you dial 911, and it takes twenty minutes for the call to go through?
