Advertising, ad campaigns, ad agencies, and the people that make it happen

I take my hat off to Butler Shine Stern & Partners for continuing to use William Shatner as Priceline’s spokesman in their new campaign. How often do you see new agencies throwing out the previous agencies work, for no other reason than it being the previous agencies work? The current kafuffle taking place at VW with them probably binging back the campaign theme “Drivers Wanted” that originated at previous agency Arnold, but was dumped by CP+B when they picked up the account. The new Priceline TV campaign perfectly uses Shatner’s natural humor and is a well produced “homage” to 60’s spy shows such as I Spy and The Man form UNCLE. Unlike most clients who quickly get tired of their own advertising because they see it so often, and assume that everyone else does, Priceline has stuck with Shatner for over ten years, and if they’ve any sense, they’ll stick with him for another ten.

So they flew me here to shoot a commercial. But they only gave me a one-way ticket!
