When it comes to advertising research, the “Duhhh” element never fails to factor into the equation… A new survey from Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI), found that over half (56.5 percent) of the kids surveyed watched ads and that the key ingredients to keep kids engaged in advertising, whether on television, online, radio or in print, is humor, a cute character and music. Wow, and I always thought it was detailed tutorials on nuclear physics and brain surgery. I mean, c’mon guys, I hope you’re not expecting to sell this breakthrough study to people dumb enough to shell out thousands for these insights… But, based on prior experience, they’ll probably have to reprint it a few times. Cherry picking all the revolutionary information in there reveals that humorous ads are the key hook. 74.7 percent of the kids survey cited “Funny things, like a funny animal or character” and 44.2 percent chose “Silly Humor”. Music will also keep them watching, 52 percent of the kids said they wanted to hear music. So there you have it. If you want to get the little buggers buying your “FatSo” burgers, make commercials with funny animals doing stupid things to an insanely hilarious music track… That’ll be $50 K, thank you very much!
