Britney Spears gives KFed's spot two thumbs down!

Now that most of the BS about the Super Bowl spots has died down, I still haven’t worked out who won… I mean for best received TV spot… Not the game. I think I passed out after half time with a combination of boredom and drink. The one major mystery seems to be the Nationwide spot featuring Britney Spears soon to be ex… KFed, or Kevin Federline to old grumps like me. Some say it was a huge hit, others say it was a flop. The whole point of the commercial was that after twenty seconds of super stardom, he wakes up from his dream and he’s working in a fast food joint. Which isn’t a bad idea. But, as it had been pre-screened for weeks prior to the game… Where was the surprise ending? Same with many of the other spots, including the CGC Doritos stuff and that awful “Mapasaurus” embarrassment. It’s dumb. Just think… If Apple had spent the last three months of 1983 running the 1984 Mac launch spot prior to the game… Would it have had the same amazing effect… Not in a million years.

Kevin Federline... Yeah, I used to know him. I think he works at McDonalds now!

George around this hovel not one of the commercials drew any raves, ok maybe a coule or groans during the game. I spent most of yesterday (Tuesday) with a bunch of marketing and advertising types at the University of Nebraska and neither the game or the commercials were brought up. The funeral must have been Monday.

Roy...
Not surprised. It was a pretty lackluster event in total. I have to wonder why no one seems able to make a decent car spot any more. The Robert Goulet spot was the best, the rest were mostly a big yawn.

The Robert Goulet spot was the best and at least it mostly had the product as the subject of the effort. The rest did draw big groans from this old cowboy and the rest of the herd gathered in this hovel. As I said in some other post, if this is the best we can do 2007 will be a long year in this business.

Four years ago if someone was to ask on Family Feud who the number one response for nut brand names was, we know Planters would get 80%. Then the poor guy second in line that would have to think of another response. In a couple years, look what name recognition Emerald Nuts has. Again I don't even know if they advertise the entire year or not. But there is the anticipation for the commercial now once a year. Last year, I wasted my time thinking of acrostics on their site and i didn't even see their ad on TV. Though, since then I have heard it is not a waste of time to do these puzzles because doing such puzzles actually sharpens the ol' noggin. I thought they might start doing something with word jumbles which would be old fashion silly enough as Goulet and kinda carry over to that mind sharpening thing. Though I guess office is the big culture now, so I would have missed the boat on that idea anyway. At least they could have referenced last year's acrostic winner, or?

Either which way, good for emerald nuts for helping me to remember there are more nuts in the world anyway. Hey, and nuts are good for you, too.
