Mmmm… Trouble on the horizon for Google today with the news that Viacom has issued a firm demand to YouTube to immediately remove over 100,000 video clips featuring content from Viacom's family of networks after the two companies failed to reach a workable content-sharing arrangement. The clips, which Viacom said account for 1.2 billion video streams, range from short snippets to full-length episodes of shows from MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, and others. Remember, back in October, when this dispute first arose, Viacom had asked YouTube to remove a certain amount of content? Well, it would seem that it never happened. According to a Viacom spokeshack, "Filtering tools promised repeatedly by YouTube and Google have not been put in place, and they continue to host and stream vast amounts of unauthorized video." Oooh, very naughty! Particularly when he continued, “YouTube and Google retain all of the revenue generated from this practice, without extending fair compensation to the people who have expended all of the effort and cost to create it." Maybe Sergey and Larry need another Boeing 777!
