I was interested to read that Rodale, which publishes Runner's World, has agreed to buy the smaller title Running Times from Fitness Publishing. Apparently, the two magazines will remain separate. Runners World focuses on semi serious joggers; while Running Times addresses committed road runners who are close to being masochists. I know ‘cos I used to be one. The trouble is, after twenty years of 100 mile weeks, 50 weeks a year, you virtually destroy your joints. Like I said masochists! When I first started I read Runners World, but soon switched to Running Times. Not just because it was more hard core, but because, in common with many other enthusiast magazines, you soon realize that you are reading the same material rehashed. I mean how many articles can you do on staying hydrated and pasta loading? The turnover in readership must be very high. The other thing that eventually put me off was the amount of advertising, with most of it being for non-running products.
.
Who are you calling a masochist?
