With the proposed merger of Sirius and XM satellite radio channels, the big selling point to get FCC approval is apparently that consumers will now have more choice of quality programming. Then I read that XM is about to launch a “Larry King” special channel to celebrate his 50 years in broadcasting. It runs from April 16-20 and will feature “highlights” from King’s CNN show. My problem with this is that to me there are no highlights, it's just one big snore. I cannot understand why this show is so popular. A piece in the New York Times this week pointed out that he does absolutely no preparation prior to the show and just asked the softball questions his team have scripted out for him. There’s never any follow up, and definitely nothing remotely confrontational. The only things that stand out in the whole sixty minute yawn fest are his suspenders.
