Sometimes I wonder about so called "Institutes of Higher Education." That's why I'm mystified with the brouhaha about Stacy Snyder being refused her teachers degree 'cos she posted a picture of herself on MySpace drinking. Sounds shocking, right? Until you actually look at the photograph, which is below. The picture in question turned out to be of her at a Halloween party in 2005 dressed as a pirate and drinking an indeterminate liquid "from a plastic 'Mr. Goodbar' cup." But underneath was a caption which read "Drunken Pirate." Give me a break, does anyone think pre-teen kids trolling cyberspace are going to be turned into raving alcoholics on the strength of that picture. The potential to damage kids eyes through most of the retina bursting graphics on the average MySpace page is a much bigger threat to juvenile health, in my opinion... But what do I know... Time for a cocktail anyway. Cheers.
