Although Father's Day has been around since the beginning of the Twentieth Century, and was brought about as some kind of counterbalance to Mother's Day and all the attention mum was getting for one lousy day of the year... I guess in common with every other day you can think of, from "Groundhog Day" to "Peel an Onion Day" we can thank Hallmark for all the hoopla. Meaning, the idea that you should go out and spend the equivalent of the GNP of a small African nation on useless gifts for someone who doesn't really need them. Yeah, I know, all this stuff with the help of people in the Ad Biz like me, greases the wheels of the great commercial engine that drive the US economy. But for me, it just went too far in the aftermath of 9/11... Anyone remember the words of "The Great Decider" when he said... "Don't let the terrorists win... Go out and shop." Not exactly your Churchillian "Blood, sweat and tears" oratory, but I guess by The President's literary standards, it'll have to do. Anyway, as this is "National Automotive Service Professionals Week" Treat yourself to an oil change... Stay lubed!
.
Better yet,,, Buy him an oil well!
