In case you haven't read it recently, China is home to about 137 million Internet users, and that number will grow to surpass the number in the U.S. in just a few years. But until things change, there really needs to be an asterisk next to any estimate of Chinese users, because they are not seeing the same Net as the rest of us. The latest example? Amid a government campaign to "curb the spread of decadent and backward ideological and cultural material online," the operators of the Chinese "World of Warcraft" franchise will remove all skeleton characters in the multiplayer game, replacing them with fully intact human figures. News agency Xinhua also reported that skeletal remains on the ground would henceforth be rendered as graves. According to Xinhua, the backlash consists of 500 players who have promised to boycott the game; a successful protest is deemed unlikely. Yeah, I guess you could call 500 out of 137 million not much of a backlash!
.
Doesn't look too skeletal to me!
