There's been some great banter going on over at MediaDailyNews in response to a recent article designating the pecking order of the TV Networks. As would be expected, they put Fox in first place... But as one reader points out... FOX is not the clear number 1! With the exception of their over-played and slowly declining "American Idol," and its quirky lead-out "House," Fox has nothing else. While advertisers love the younger demos delivered by FOX, the true number one network is still the one that is watched by more viewers than the rest. CBS. Once ALL the TV networks realize that game shows, reality shows and third or even fourth versions of franchise programs are simply not going to gather enough viewers in the long run, maybe we can begin to see some new and original dramas, truly entertaining comedies and more of the programming that made TV great - before it becomes irrelevant. I couldn't agree more. In spite of what you read in the trades, a hell of a lot of people still watch TV, and a great many of them are not pimply youths with their McDonalds, minimum wage, disposable incomes.
