There's a piece in today's MediaWeek about the expected growth of User Generated Content (UGC) sites over the next few years... Very enthusiastic and very positive... Not sure if I go along with most of that. Yes, it will grow, and all the Google's, Yahoos and Microsoft's... Not to mention "The Wizened of Oz (Rupert Murdoch) will continue to splash out big money buying up all the new kids on the block, but just like the Dot Com implosion, lots of these will disappear without a trace. MediaWeek claims that ad spending on these sites will get up to $4.3 billion by 2011 from $1 billion spent this year. That's an increase of 330%. But the really frightening statistic is that by 2011, there will be 95 million Web users creating content on-line, up from 64 million currently. Ridiculous... I mean how many videos of cats playing pianos, or dogs riding skateboards can people bear to watch? Based on the way it's going... Probably about 95 million!

Been there... Done that!
