As the presidential races are now fully underway, merely for the nominations, and months before the primaries... Why am I not surprised to read that the onslaught of political advertising has already begun? Through June 10, more than 8,500 political ads have already aired on TV with more than 8,200 of them on local TV in Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Washington, D.C. and California. Spending is expected to hit $750 million this year alone, and the first of the caucuses aren't for another SEVEN months! Total spend leading up to the actual Presidential election will be in the billions... And all of it will be bad. Not just in content, which will either be soporifically mundane, or mad-dog muck. It will also be repetitious and guaranteed to eventually drive everyone mad. Couple this with the fact that 2008 is also an Olympics year with it's usual mammoth TV coverage, and we can look forward to a "Summer of discontent." brought on by a tsunami of "Crappy Content!"
.
Make it stop... Please!
